St. Colmcille illustrated lecture and coach trip, Tues 13 and Tues 20 of May

This Tuesday 13 May, the Kilcronaghan Centre is hosting a free illustrated lecture on St. Colmcille will be delivered by Mr Jim Hunter at 8pm!

This will be followed, on Tuesday 20 May, by a coach trip visiting sites linked to the Saint in northern County Londonderry. The tour guide on the trip will, once again, be Jim Hunter.

Places for the trip can be booked at the lecture and the £5 fare, which includes lunch, must be paid on booking.

Saint Colmcille and Kilcronaghan

Saint Colmcille (or Columba) has undoubtedly always had strong association with the neighbouring parishes of Ballinascreen and Kilcronaghan in South Derry.

Schools, churches and clubs throughout Ballinascreen are named after the Saint, who had his monastic settlement in Moneyconey townland, while the ancient church of Saint Cronaghan in Mormeal townland commemorates Cronaghan who was the tutor (and some would say foster father) of Colmcille. It is, therefore, most appropriate that Ballinascreen and Kilcronaghan Community Associations have got together and planned a two-part celebration of Colmcille’s life.
